This excursion to the Bay Islands will focus on exploring Russell Island, the largest island in the Bay Island group.
We will catch the ferry from Redlands marina at 9.00 a.m. (You will need your Go Card). We will disembark at Russell Island. There is a 3.4 km circuit of the Whistling Kite Wetlands which are located 2.5 kms from the ferry terminal. (Total walking distance is approximately 8.0 kms). For those not wishing to complete the wetlands circuit, there are several coffee shops for morning tea and beach access near the ferry terminal. If time permits, we can visit the Russell Island Community Arts Centre which has good reviews, before catching the ferry to Macleay Island. A courtesy bus will drive us to the Macleay Island Bowls Club for lunch. We will return to Redlands Marina by ferry, stopping but not disembarking, at Lamb Island and Karragarra Island.
You will need to bring morning tea, water, hat and sunscreen.
For those wishing to car pool from Ipswich, you will meet at the usual place on the corner of South and Nicholas Streets, Ipswich at 7.30 a.m. Parking at the ferry terminal can be difficult so time to park should be considered.
