Labour Day Long Weekend Base Camp - Blackbutt & BVRT M33
Sat 02nd May 2026
Bookings available to active members only.
We will be camping at the Blackbutt Showgrounds or if you don't camp consider a stay at the Radnor Hotel in Blackbutt. There is also a motel just up the road if preferred. The Showgrounds have powered and unpowered sites and good facilities, just a short walk from the hotel and other food outlets in the main street. Perhaps we will have dinner at the hotel on the Saturday night or possibly the Sunday night too. The Radnor Hotel Blackbutt has a reputation for good meals at reasonable prices, and is open late on Sat and Sun evenings. The Linville Hotel is open late on Sat evening and for Lunch on Sun. Let us know which you prefer closer to the time. Accommodation costs are very reasonable: Camping – $10 per person per night (unpowered); $13 per person per night/ $25 couple (powered) . Contact Hotel/Motel directly for current pricing. We will be walking sections of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) on Saturday afternoon, Sunday and Monday on the way home. These are some of the best bush sections of the trail and are also the steepest (for a railway line), but the good news is that we will walk them all in the downhill direction with car shuffles.
We plan to do the Blackbutt-Benarkin section (5km) on Saturday for those who are there by about 3pm. On Sunday we will walk either from Benarkin down to Linville (17km) or Yarraman to Blackbutt (19Km). On Monday we have a choice of which ever didn't get walked on Sunday. Or if a shorter day is preferred then Linville-Moore (7km) or Moore-Harlin (13km), depending on how much energy we have left. Check out the BVRT website for more details of the walks. If you are interested, please plan ahead as we will need to make bookings no later than early-April or we will not get in. These venues are very popular with a range of bike, caravan and 4WD groups. It should be a great weekend with fairly easy walks and a good social occasion. You will need to make your own way to Blackbutt and have your own equipment to camp.
